DR as a Service (DRaaS), 10G point-to-point circuit
Client had over 775 servers and a petabyte of data and needed to develop a new strategy for their DR. The client was initially looking at managing a colocation environment themselves in a facility 1,000 miles away for their DR.
Tier 4 introduced the idea of DR in the cloud instead of colocation and after analyzing the costs and ROI, the decision was made to move forward with the cloud based solution. Tier 4 took this RFP out to 9 different providers initially and then helped the client narrow the section down to 3 possible vendors.
After facilitating several strategy meetings and planning sessions, Tier4 helped the client select the right provider. We were able to help get this project done on time and under budget. We also managed the relationships with their ISP and help them get a 10G point to point circuit between the primary data center and the DR environment at a substantial savings.
This project could've easily blown up but Tier 4 kept the momentum going and helped the client understand what was needed from them to hit certain deadlines, manage the project and keep things moving. Due to our extensive experience and vendor database, Tier4 also knew what providers were pricing themselves too high for certain "value props" and what providers were priced correctly.
Colo, Cloud, Connectivity
A global data center consolidation project that had an IT infrastructure budget cut of over 30% attached to it.
This was a difficult project that most would've turned down due to the timeline and aggressive financial target given by the CFO. After carefully evaluating the criteria, we knew we could help the client meet their goals.
Budget and provider capabilities were the client’s number one priorities, so the RFP was published to 14 different providers which Tier 4 narrowed down to 5 for onsite presentations. After that, we helped the client select 3 providers and began aggressive negotiations with them to find additional areas where we could save.
We not only beat the deadline for this project but we also achieved over 33% costs savings. This was a total team effort and a wonderful project to be a part of.
Sometimes negotiations can get very heated. Tier4 was able to add a lot of value by knowing where we could and couldn't negotiate in the price as well as the MSA. Not only did we save time, we also saved this project on a few occasions by calming some nerves and negotiating professionally. We used our extensive experience from other deals to get this project finalized and meet all of the client’s goals.
Colocation, High performance super computer
This particular super computer was located in an older data center and the monthly recurring price was about double what Tier4 thought the client should be paying for this colocation service.
After analyzing the details, we sent the bid out to 11 different providers across 2 states. We then quickly chose 3 due to certain geographical requirements the client had.
Once we understood that chilled water needed to be delivered to the floor for this 18+ kW per cab deployment, we were able to identify the right provider.
Tier4 was able to save the client over 50%. We also helped negotiate the terms and price for the migration of this super computer infrastructure and saved the client over $2,000,000 over a 5yr period.
Client was initially utilizing an enterprise data center in a 100+ year old building for their primary, while their DR environment was in another part of the country in an office building.
Their primary was subjected to brown outs, flooding, and needed massive upgrades to bring the data center up to appropriate standards.
The client decided to search for a colo provider who could deliver quickly and under budget. Tier4 set up bidding calls with several prospective providers, scheduled facility tours and managed all of the logistics for the client.
Tier4 was able to help them find the right provider in only 6 business days and save over 19% on budget allocation for the project.

Cloud infrastructure in Europe
This client had an immediate need in Europe for cloud infrastructure. Time was critical because their current colocation provider was getting evicted out of their data center because they hadn't paid their rent and was being evicted themselves. No, seriously.
The client had old gear that wasn't worth moving so they decided to migrate their data to the cloud.
To make things even harder, they needed a solution within 3 weeks. To make things even REALLY harder, it was the week of Thanksgiving and Christmas and New Years was right around the corner.
Tier4 jumped into action immediately and scheduled tours for the CIO to fly into London where we had arranged tours and meetings with several providers over a two day period. The top 3 providers were quickly selected and negotiations began.
With the help of Tier4 Advisors this client was able to complete the initial vendor selection, tours, meetings, vendor down selection, negotiations, and contract signing all within 2 weeks from the word GO! Tier4 managed all the logistics and tours for the CIO – he literally just had to show up and tour. He claims it was the “easiest business transaction of his 25yr+ career”.
This was a total team win and we not only came in under budget but also got all setup fees waived and 5yr contract pricing on a 3yr term for the client.
